The Duke of Edinburgh Award
At Bishop Ullathorne, we offer the Bronze Award during Year 10 and the Silver Award during Year 12. There are four sections to complete in order to achieve the Award. They include:
- helping the community/environment
- becoming fitter
- developing new skills
- planning, training for and completing an expedition.
Activities for each DofE section take a minimum of one hour a week over a set period of time, so they can be fitted in around academic study, hobbies and social lives. The main differences between Bronze and Silver are the minimum length of time it takes to complete each of the activities, how challenging it is and the minimum age you can start.
Students who choose to complete the Award will demonstrate all areas of our Ullathorne Way Values:
wise and curious
Taking up new activities for the physical and skills section
Developing knowledge of expeditions skills with navigating, cooking, camping
Becoming lifelong learners who take up new challenges once they have left school
Faith-filled and Prophetic
Serving the local faith community through the volunteering section
Making a difference to future opportunities by achieving a prestigious Award
Grateful
Being generous with our time when volunteering
Demonstrating gratitude towards their staff, coaches and assessors
Appreciating current gifts and talents and learning new skills
Eloquent
Adding evidence to the eDofE app of their volunteering, physical and skills sections
Communicating with adults in the wider community
Attentive
Paying close attention to the activities chosen and evidence added to eDofE
Through expedition training (developing map reading skills, use of a compass)
While on the expedition, learning from past experiences to seek a better way forward
Compassionate
Showing care and making a difference to other people or the environment through volunteering sections
Supporting other team members during the expedition
